Lithium carbonate

Classification:

Mainly used in the synthesis of lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide, ternary materials and lithium iron phosphate lithium ion cathode materials. Used for making ceramics, drugs, catalysts, lithium-ion power battery cathode materials, etc.

Product Details

Lithium carbonate is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of Li₂ CO and a molecular weight of 73.89. It is colorless monoclinic crystal, slightly soluble in water, dilute acid, but insoluble in ethanol, acetone. Lithium carbonate is less thermally stable than carbonates of other elements of the same group in the periodic table, and is thermally stable below 600°C, but begins to decompose into lithium oxide and carbon dioxide at 618°C.

Lithium carbonate has a wide range of uses, mainly including the following aspects:

Industrial applications: lithium carbonate can be used as raw materials for ceramics, glass, ferrite, etc., as well as components such as silver spray paste.

Medical use: lithium carbonate has important value in medicine, mainly for the treatment of manic episodes, prevention of recurrence, relief of depressive symptoms, adjuvant treatment of schizophrenia and regulation of neurotransmitter balance. It affects the synthesis and metabolism of neurotransmitters by stabilizing the concentration of sodium ions in cells, thus playing a therapeutic role.

There are many production methods of lithium carbonate, including brine comprehensive utilization method, lime sintering method, lithium hydroxide and carbon dioxide as raw materials reaction method, sulfuric acid method, lime method and by-product method. Among them, the ore carbonation method is one of the most commonly used methods for producing lithium carbonate, which uses lithium ores such as spodumene and petalite as raw materials to prepare lithium carbonate through high-temperature heating, acid-base treatment, precipitation, drying and other steps.

It should be noted that although lithium carbonate has a wide range of application value, it mainly damages the gastrointestinal tract, heart, kidney and nervous system after being poisoned by mistake. Therefore, it is necessary to follow relevant safety procedures during use and storage.
